In a press conference Friday morning, US Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford announced the death of a top deputy and finance minister for ISIS that occurred during a US raid earlier this month. Haji Imam, whose full name is Abd al-Rahman Mustafa al-Qaduli, played an intricate role in the terrorist organization’s financing of ISIS operations. Despite the Brussels attacks earlier this week, the anti-terrorist forces have been gaining momentum against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. For example, Omar al-Shishani, another top ISIS commander, was killed last week by US forces. Furthermore, Iraqi troops were able to liberate the city of Ramadi in December, while Syrian troops are currently in the process of regaining Palmyra. Throughout 2015, ISIS lost about 14% of its occupied territory.
