President Obama announced a stronger attack against ISIS yesterday, saying destroying ISIS was his top priority during his last year of presidency. The statement comes before an important meeting between the White House and top US military brass. Although President Obama did not go into too many details, he did clarify that the plan would focus on strengthening current tactics, rather than completely changing strategies. Efforts would include blocking highways between Raqqa, Syria and Mosul, Iraq, the main ISIS strongholds in the Middle East. Furthermore, there are rumors of possibly sending additional US Special Operations forces into Syria. Up until now, the US has authorized about 50 special operations in Syria to train moderate rebel forces. Similar success in Iraq, however, would require the Iraqi government’s permission and may prove to be a roadblock in the plan.
