Germany implements first minimum wage

After much dispute, the German parliament has approved the implementation of the country’s first minimum wage in a vote on Thursday. The wage will be set at 8.50 euros per hour and is planned to come into effect on 1 January 2015. This decision comes in the midst of other European countries making changes to their minimum wage policies.
