Donald Trump responded to the alliance between John Kasich and Ted Cruz Sunday evening, calling the agreement a “horrible act of desperation”. Earlier on Sunday, Kasich and Cruz announced their decision to effectively stop campaigning in particular states in order to give the other an advantage over Donald Trump. If the plan were to work, Donald Trump would not be able to reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the Republican nomination for the general election. In this case, the nomination would be picked at the Republican convention, which would most likely result in Ted Cruz or John Kasich becoming the nomination over Donald Trump, despite Trump having received “millions” of votes more than the two remaining candidates. Trump blasted his fellow Republican candidates, saying “Collusion is often illegal in many other industries and yet these two Washington insiders have had to revert to collusion in order to stay alive. They are mathematically dead and this act only shows, as puppets of donors and special interests, how truly weak they and their campaigns are”.
