ISIS has claimed responsibility for the series of explosions that occurred at the departure hall of the Brussels’s Zaventem airport and a metro stop in the Belgian capital this morning, killing 34 people and injuring more than 180. As of now, there has only been confirmation that one of the explosions at the airport was caused by a suicide bomb. The Maelbeek metro station is located in close proximity to both the EU Commission headquarters and the UN regional office. The attacks are possibly linked to the arrest of Salah Abdeslam on Friday, the only known surviving Paris attacker. The international community has responded swiftly in support of Belgium. French prime minister Manuel Valls is quoted, saying “We are at war”.
